Turkey tops the medal table of European Karate Championships for Regions

Host country of Turkey finished on top position of the European Karate Championships for Regions celebrated this past weekend. Turkish city of Kocaeli staged the 14th edition of the event that gathers athletes representing their regions of origin in an anticipated event of the calendar of European Karate.

After two days of competition, Turkish Karatekas prevailed in the tournament held in Kocaeli. Local athletes wrapped-up the championship with a tally of 17 medals thus being proclaimed as the big winners of the event. Representatives of the host country reached the top of the podium four times in a demonstration of their domination in the tournament.

The squad of Turkey’s Marmara region won the Male Team Kata and the Male Team Kumite, as well as the Kumite Team Cadet and Junior Male categories in a remarkable performance. Meanwhile the Turkish side of Akdeniz region also had reasons to celebrate as they prevailed in Kumite Team Cadet and Junior Female categories.

Spanish representatives registered successful performances since the delegation of the southern European country reigned in Female Team Kata and Female Team Kumite competitions.

Upcoming Karatekas from Serbia’s Beograd region became one star of the event after their two gold medals in Kata team Cadet and Junior Female and in Kata Team Cadet and Junior Male categories.

After the event celebrated this weekend in Kocaeli, the European Karate Championship for Regions will travel to Kosovo’s Pristina were the 15th edition of the competition will take place.
