The down to the start of the anticipated Karate competition at the 2019 African Games is coming to an end and the best African karatekas are getting ready to clash for the domination of the sport in the continent. The Karate tournament at the multi-sport event being held in Rabat (Morocco) is scheduled from August 24 to 26.

The down to the start of the anticipated Karate competition at the 2019 African Games is coming to an end and the best African karatekas are getting ready to clash for the domination of the sport in the continent. The Karate tournament at the multi-sport event being held in Rabat (Morocco) is scheduled from August 24 to 26.

After the outstanding success of the European Games and the Pan American Games, now it is the time of African karatekas to shine at the anticipated 2019 African Games. Following the thrilling UFAK Championships which were held in Botswana in July, top African athletes will fight for the medals and to increase their chances to qualify for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. 

The competition is scheduled to start on August 24, at 10.30 (local time). The focus of the first day will be placed on the elimination rounds of the categories of Female Individual Kata, Male Kata Team, Female Kumite -55kg, Female Kumite -61kg, Male Kumite -67kg, Male Kumite -75kg, Male Kumite -84kg, Female Kumite +68kg, and Male Kumite +84kg. 

The tournament will continue on Sunday, August 25th with the rest of the categories at stake. All the finals will be celebrated on Monday, August 26th. 

A host of Karate stars from Africa are expected to take the spotlight in Rabat, including two-time World champion and current continental title-holder Giana Lotfy of Egypt, World Championships bronze medallist Lamya Matoub of Algeria and World Championships medallist Shymaa Abouel Yazed of Egypt. Continental title-holders such as Chahnez Jami of Tunisia or Ali Elsawy of Egypt, among others will try to catch the attention of fans. 

Representatives of the host ry aim at taking the flag of the organising nation to the top of the podium just as it happened at the last continental championships. In Botswana barely one month ago, no less than six Moroccan karatekas became new African title-holders; the hopes of local fans will be centred on the likes of Sanae Agalmam, Aicha Sayah, Khawla Ouhammad, Adnane Elkhakimi, Abdessalam Ameknassi, and Yassine Sekouri.
