Kiyou Shimizu represents Karate in unveiling of Tokyo 2020 pictograms

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) unveiled the official sport pictograms of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.  Two-time World champion Kiyou Shimizu represented Karate at the event and demonstrated the popularity of the sport in the host country of the 2020 Olympic Games with her participation in the ceremony of presentation of the pictograms. 

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) unveiled the official sports pictograms of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Two-time World champion Kiyou Shimizu represented Karate at the event and demonstrated the popularity of the sport in the host country of the 2020 Olympic Games with her participation in the ceremony of presentation of the pictograms. 

The pictograms were launched with 500 days to go until the start of the Tokyo Olympic Games on July 24 next year. In line with the Tokyo 2020 brand promise of “Innovation from Harmony”, the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 sports pictograms are designed to subtly communicate the characteristics and athleticism of each sport, as well as artistically highlights the dynamism of athletes. A team led by renowned Japanese designer Masaaki Hiromura designed the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 sports pictograms.

Karate will have two pictograms to celebrate the Olympic debut of the sport in Tokyo 2020. One of the pictograms will be used to design the “Kumite” competition while the second pictogram will represent the “kata” category. 

Kiyou Shimizu is a two-time World title-holder and 2018 World Championships runner-up. Currently in the second place of WKF World Ranking, Shimizu is one of the most revered Karate competitors and a true star of the sport in Japan.
