Karatekas ready to take spotlight in Southeast Asian Games

The Karate competition is set to take the 2017 Southeast Asian Games by storm, as top karatekas are ready to showcase their impressive abilities in the event being held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

The Karate competition is set to take the 2017 Southeast Asian Games by storm, as top karatekas are ready to showcase their impressive abilities in the event being held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

The multi-sport event that gathers over four thousand athletes from the Southeaster Asian countries is underway in Kuala Lumpur. No less than 38 disciplines are being presented in the 29th edition of the competition that will capture the attention of fans from August 19 to August 30. Karate will take the spotlight during the three-day tournament which is scheduled for August 22, 23 and 24.

Competitors from the eleven Southeast Asian countries will compete for gold in the 16 Karate categories at stake. The nearly 20 athletes representing the host country will try to take the Malaysian flag to the top of the podium. Among them, current Grand Winner Syakilla Salni Jeffry Krishnan leads hosts hopes. The Malaysian karateka who is placed on sixth position of the WKF World Ranking in Female Kumite -55kg is set to become one of the stars of the event thus extending her tally of awards that includes bronze medal at the 2017 AKF Championships, silver medal at the 2014 World Championships and three gold medals in Karate 1-Premier League events.

Indonesia will also try to demonstrate their powerhouse condition in international Karate. Indonesian representatives claimed no less than eight medals at the 2014 AKF Championships and hope to prevail in Kuala Lumpur with one of the largest delegations in contention. The always competitive representatives of Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam, among others also aim to take the top the podium of the anticipated event.
