WKF streamlines COVID-19 protocol at Test Event in Lisbon

The Atlice Arena in Lisbon (Portugal) hosted the WKF COVID-19 Test Event.

The Atlice Arena in Lisbon (Portugal) hosted the WKF COVID-19 Test Event. The guidelines and protocol to adapt the Karate competition to the new reality were evaluated at the event.

With the wellbeing of competitors and staff members at heart, the WKF examined the standards to be implemented at major events once that international competitions start being held again.

All the first-class international Karate competitions have been cancelled or postponed since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, and the WKF is seeing with anticipation the celebration of the first event next year.

Lisbon hosted the WKF COVID-19 Test Event where all the safety protocols were reviewed. From the updated registration and weigh-in processes to the necessity of conducting antigen tests to all the competitors and participants, as well as the sanitation of the competition areas, and the streamlined flow of competitors, all the regulations included in the WKF COVID-19 protocol were tested at the event.

Athletes from Portugal participated in the event due to the travelling restrictions enforced as a result of the spread of the coronavirus around the world. The capital of Portugal will host the first event of the season next year as the Karate 1-Premier League Lisbon is scheduled to inaugurate the new year of Karate from February 19 to 21, 2021.
