The head of the World Karate Federation was awarded with the Special World Fair Play Trophy for his efforts in the promotion and enforcement of honourable sports principles and for the expansion of fairness in the sport.

Mr. Espinós received the award at a special ceremony headed by the International Fair Play Committee President Jenő Kamuti. The event was held in Wroclaw during The World Games.

“This is recognition of a long process and activity of a management, which proves that Karate is on the right track,” said Mr. Kamuti.

“I am really honoured to receive this award. The World Fair Play Trophy is very important for me, and it will encourage me to continue working hard in the improvement and the development of this way of life among all the Karate family,” said Mr. Espinós.

The World Fair Play Trophy is awarded by the International Fair Play Committee to personalities who have proved to be excellent ambassadors of fair play. The award recognises acts of fair play, general attitude of sportsmanship throughout a sports career, and activities aiming to promote these values in sport. In his nearly 20 years as head of the WKF, Mr. Espinós has taken the sport to new levels and has contributed to raising the profile of the ancient modality.
