WKF President Antonio Espinós met with representatives of national federations via videoconference to discuss the development and promotion of Karate around the world and to analyse the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

The World Karate Federation is organising meetings with all the national federations in the world to maintain an open dialogue with all Karate stakeholders. Karate’s governing body aimed at evaluating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the different structures of Karate organisations worldwide.

Divided into six sessions throughout three days, the meetings serve as an opportunity for the WKF to reinforce the unity of all the members of the Karate family, as well as to continue maximising the progress of the sport.

The first session had national federations from Asia, Eastern Europe and Oceania joining the discussion. Representatives from Armenia, Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Fiji Islands, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and UAE participated in the gathering via videoconference, with WKF General Secretary Toshihisa Nagura and WKF Para Karate Commission chairperson Dusana Augustovicova also contributing to the conversations.

Spanish-speaking countries and PKF nations took the stage in the second session as representatives of the national federations of Brazil, Chile, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela met with the head of Karate’s international governing body via videoconference.

“We enjoyed very fruitful discussions today in the two meetings via videoconference with representatives of 16 national federations. I truly appreciate the delegates taking the time to contribute with their experiences and their ideas to further take Karate to new heights in their regions. I am pleased to learn that our vision for the future of Karate is mostly shared by all the heads of the national federations present today. Their support gives us the strength to continue working untiringly to capitalise on our success and our progress,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
