WKF President meets Minister of Youth and Sport of Serbia

WKF President Antonio Espinós met with the Minister of Youth and Sport of Serbia, Vanja Udovicic

WKF President Antonio Espinós met with the Minister of Youth and Sport of Serbia, Vanja Udovicic in Porec (Croatia). The meeting was held on the occasion of the EKF Senior Championships, and it had the growing popularity of the sport in Serbia as the main topic of the agenda.

Karate is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in Serbia, as stated by the country’s top official. The remarkable expansion of the sport in the region, especially among younger demographics was highlighted at the meeting as the representative of Serbia’s sports authority stressed the increasing investment that Karate has received over the last years in the country.  

Additionally, the future development of the sport in the region and projects to host Karate’s major events in the country were also analysed. The two high-level officials also reviewed Karate’s debut at the Olympic Games and the preparation of athletes ahead of the historic event.

The meeting was also attended by the President of the Serbian Karate Federation and EKF Executive Committee member Slavoljub Piper.

“I want to thank Mr Udovicic for taking the time to come to Porec to visit our European Championships and to meet with us here. Serbia is one of the powerhouse nations of our sport in Europe and I appreciate the support that Karate is receiving from Serbia’s sports authorities. I am pleased to attest that Karate continues breaking boundaries in the region and I am glad to know that the country is ready to host the major events of our sport in the near future,” said WKF and EKF President Antonio Espinós.
