The 2019 European Universities Combat Championships which featured Judo, Karate, Kickboxing and Taekwondo competitions was the stage where the high-profile meetings took place in Zagreb (Croatia). The Karate tournament was attended by the Vice president of Croatian Olympic Committee Sanda Čorak and Croatia’s Deputy State Secretary for Sport Krešimir Šamija, with whom Mr Espinós discussed the remarkable progress of Karate in the country.

The head of Karate’s international governing body also analysed the impact of the sport at young ages and the strong commitment of the EKF to further grow Karate at university level during a meeting with EUSA President Adam Rozcek. The success of the 2019 European Universities Combat Championships was highlighted while WKF and EKF President reaffirmed European Karate’s intention to maintain its solid presence at EUSA events.

“It was a pleasure to meet with so many sports officials in Zagreb and to discuss with them the development of Karate in Europe and at university level. We are going to continue our cooperation with EUSA in order to further promote our sport among youngsters so to ensure that Karate continues being one of the most popular disciplines at young ages, not only in Europe but all over the world,” said WKF and EKF President.
