WKF participates in General Assembly of International Paralympic Committee

WKF Commissioner for Olympic and Paralympic Affairs Wolfgang Weigert attended the General Assembly and Conference of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) which was held from September 5 to 8 in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

The event had special significance since the new IPC governing board was to be elected at the four-day meeting. As a result of this elective process, Andrew Parson from Brazil was appointed new President replacing Sir Philip Craven who had held office since 2001.

Among the many topics being discussed at the meetings, the criteria for admission for the new Para-Sports to the Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024 was analysed and approved by the session, with the results of the application process to be announced in January 2019.

Attendees also received updates on a number of matters including diversity in the Paralympic Movement, post-Games reports on Rio 2016 and progress reports on PyeongChang 2018, Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022.

Mr. Weigert, who was commissioned by the WKF to participate at the event, represented Karate international governing body at the historic meeting as the WKF is continuing its efforts to promote Para-Karate.
