WKF General Secretary hails progress of Karate in visit to Kazakhstan

WKF General Secretary Toshihisa Nagura represented Karate’s international governing body this past week in a high-profile visit to Kazakhstan. Mr Nagura travelled to Kazakhstan to attest the remarkable progress of the sport in the country.

The bright prospects for Karate were discussed during Mr Nagura’s presentation at the 64th Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Sports Group Conference. The WKF General Secretary participated in the gathering of broadcasting organisations from the Asia-Pacific area where he presented the particularities of Karate as an innovative and developing sport. 

Among the topics in his exposition, Mr. Nagura described the journey of the sport towards its inclusion in the programme of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The Karate official showcased the different initiatives that the WKF has taken over the years to take the discipline to become an Olympic sport in Tokyo. Additionally, the WKF General Secretary analysed the many actions being implemented by Karate’s international governing body to extend the progress of the sport as the WKF aims to continue making Karate a ground-breaking and increasingly popular discipline. 

Mr. Nagura also attended the Kazakh Open Championships which were held in Nur-Sultan this past weekend. Over 500 competitors from 13 countries took part in the prestigious the competition.
