WKF Executive Committee member Makarita Lenoa new FASANOC president

World Karate Federation Executive Committee member Makarita Lenoa has been elected president of the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC). Former Fiji Karate Federation president and WKF Executive Committee member since 2007, Lenoa is the first indigenous Fijian and second female to hold the role of FASANOC president since the creation of the organisation in 1949.

Member of the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) Sport Education Commission and Chairperson of the FASANOC Sport Education Commission since 2016, Lenoa was voted as the new head of the organisation at the Annual General Assembly, which was held on Tuesday in Suva.

“As the newly elected FASANOC President, I’m in a better position to ensure that FASANOC fulfils its mission and role according to the IOC Charter, and the FASANOC Charter and to continue to collaborate with the key sports stakeholders in Fiji so that athletes and sports participants are better served through each of the National Federations and thus ensuring that sport can be an influencing factor for positive change and to service society. I thank Karate Fiji President Ms Angela Birch and her Committee for the nomination, and the National Federations for providing me with the opportunity to now be able to serve as President of the Fiji Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee,” said Makarita Lenoa.
