WKF Executive Committee Meets to Discuss Future of Karate

The Executive Committee of the World Karate Federation (WKF) met Tuesday via videoconference to review the current state of karate and discuss key topics shaping the future of the sport.

WKF President Antonio Espinós led the meeting from the WKF headquarters in Madrid alongside WKF CEO Sara Wolff. Executive Committee members joined remotely, demonstrating their continued commitment to karate’s global development.


The meeting began with a heartfelt message from President Espinós and all Executive Committee members, extending their deepest condolences to WKF General Secretary Toshihisa Nagura for the recent passing of his wife. The WKF family expressed their support and sympathy for Mr. Nagura and his loved ones during this difficult time.


One of the main topics discussed was the current state of karate, including its Olympic prospects. The WKF leadership reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring karate remains a key player in the international sports landscape. The Executive Committee analysed ongoing efforts to strengthen karate’s position and enhance its appeal to the global sporting community.

Additionally, the Executive Committee reviewed the competition calendar for 2026 and 2027. With increasing interest from stakeholders to host major international events, the WKF is working to create a well-structured and balanced schedule. The finalized competition calendar is expected to be made available in the coming months, providing clarity and strategic planning opportunities for athletes, coaches, and national federations.
