The Executive Committee of the World Karate Federation met on Tuesday in Santiago (Chile) to discuss the development of Karate all over the world. The meeting was held in the capital of Chile ahead of the start of the 2019 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships.

The main point on the agenda was the status of Karate’s biggest underage event which is taking place in Chile this week amid the situation of unrest that is affecting the host ry. In the wake of the latest events, the WKF Executive Committee decided to modify the competition calendar of the championships. Karate’s main governing body also reviewed the logistics of the event and took decisions to ensure the perfect development of the competition. The recommendations of the Chilean government were followed to ensure the competitors and staff members’ safety.

“The leadership of the WKF has the responsibility to deal with our sport in good and in troubled times. The situation of unrest in Chile should not affect the well-being of the participants in the World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships this week, therefore we will do our utmost to celebrate the event as it was planned,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.

Karate’s main governing body emphasised the importance of unity in the progress of the sport as Karate is getting closer to making its debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Projects to maximise the exciting future of the sport were also discussed while the Executive Committee members looked at a number of key events scheduled to take place in the next months with the calendar for 2020 being confirmed. The progress reports of the different commission of the WKF were also evaluated.

“The Executive Committee is one of the key pillars of the WKF. Today, we continue moving forward to ensure that the legacy of our sport is protected ahead of the many challenges that we are facing. Our unity is our strength, and we shall work hard to make the best of this golden era of our sport while guaranteeing the quality of Karate events worldwide,” said Mr Espinós.
