The WKF Entourage Commission met Thursday via videoconference to discuss different updates in the application of Safe Karate policies and to analyse ways to continue WKF’s progress in guaranteeing the well-being of Karate athletes.

Chaired by WKF Assistant General Treasurer and Executive Committee member Souleymane Gaye, the meeting had the participation of members Davide Benetello, Nassim Varasteh and Medical Commission chairman Rafael Arriaza, with member Laurence Fischer absent due to professional issues. The commission members gathered via videoconference amid the limitations caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

As the main points of the agenda, the Entourage Commission discussed new approaches to expand the Safe Karate programme. The WKF’s Safe Sport Policy aims at safeguarding individuals from across the globe involved in Karate as well as preventing possible cases of harassment or abuse. More information on WKF’s Safe Karate programme can be found HERE.

Additionally, the commission analysed ways to improve the detection and reduction of concussion cases in Karate bouts. Different measures were put in place to gather all the resources at hand in order to minimise the emergence of concussion-related issues in Kumite.
