USA Karate Celebrates 30th Anniversary at National Championships

USA Karate commemorated its 30th anniversary during the National Championships held in Lafayette, Louisiana. This significant milestone celebrated the national federation's rich history and honoured the contributions of the country's most relevant figures in the sport.

The federation’s founding members, past World Champions, and Olympians were honoured at the ceremony. Among the personalities who were distinguished at the event, the celebration recognised the former US World champions: Tokey Hill, Elisa Au, and George Kotaka, together with the US Olympians: Ariel Torres, Thomas Scott, Brian Irr, and Sakura Kokumai.

 

The event was attended by WKF Vice President and Sports Commissioner Gunnar Nordhal and WKF Referee Commission Secretary Fariba Madani and was chaired by USA Karate President and member of the WKF Athletes Commission and WKF Rules and Ranking Commission Elisa Au.

 

With over 1,300 competitors from across the nation, the National Championships in Lafayette marked a significant event in USA Karate’s history. The competition showcased the dedication and skill of athletes from all over the United States, reflecting the growth and strength of karate as a sport in the country.

 

USA Karate President Elisa Au said: "Our goal at USA Karate is to continuously grow and improve the experience for all of our participants, referees, and fans. We are honoured to have (WKF Vice President) Mr. Nordhal attend our event, and his presence underscores the importance of our commitment to excellence in the sport."
