Karatekas from the United States were the big winners of the 2018 Karate 1-Youth League Cancun. The third stop of the season of Karate’s series of international events for youngsters finished with young karatekas showing their abilities on the tatamis in Cancun and with representatives of the United States on top of the medal table.

After two thrilling days of competition, the athletes from the United States demonstrated the remarkable impact of Karate at young ages in the North American country and topped the final medal table of the event. The United States finished the event with no less than 26 medals including seven golds. Schuyler Maguigad in Junior Female Kumite -48kg and Frank Ruiz in Junior Male Kumite -55kg opened the gold medal count for the United States. Kalea Aradanas in Cadet Female Kata, Lester Diaz Jr in Cadet Male Kumite +70kg, Aziah Santizo in U14 Male Kumite -47kg, Lyan Gonzalez in U14 Male Kumite +55kg and Evangelos Akde in U14 Male Kumite -55kg wrapped up the victorious performance of the representatives of the North American powerhouse of the sport in Cancun.
Hosts of Mexico also finished the event on a high note since the local karatekas claimed a tally of 29 medals. The flag of the organising country waved six times on top of the podium with the triumphs accomplished by Saul Grande Garcia in U14 Male Kumite -50kg, Carlos Santiago Vega Batiz in U14 Male Kata, Ana Yuridia Martinez Zapata in U14 Female Kata, Ramiro Javier Teran Diaz in Junior Male Kumite +76kg, Erika Gabriela Luque Sanchez in Junior Female Kumite -53kg and Yaneth Quiroz Castillo in Junior Female Kata.
Russian representatives with eight medals and six golds and karatekas from Austria with six medals and three golds also took the spotlight in Cancun.
The 2018 Karate 1-Youth League will now travel to Italy where the first edition of the event for youngsters will come to an end. The last Karate 1-Youth League of the season will take place in Venice from December 14 to 16.
