Top karatekas on quest to glory at Karate 1-Series A Santiago

Santiago in Chile hosts the third Karate 1-Series A of the season. First-class karatekas have travelled to the Chilean capital to compete this weekend in the only Karate 1 event in South America. The tournament is scheduled from September 21 to 23 and it is expected to crown new names in the sport. 

Santiago (Chile) hosts the third Karate 1-Series A of the season. First-class karatekas have travelled to the Chilean capital to compete this weekend in the only Karate 1 event in South America. The tournament is scheduled from September 21 to 23 and it is expected to crown new names in the sport. 

Nearly 900 competitors from 68 countries will participate in the massive third Karate 1-Series A of the season. The host country presents the largest delegation with 125 athletes who will receive the support from local Karate fans in the quest to the medals. 

Among the big names to compete in Santiago, two World champions and four WKF World ranking leaders will be fighting for the gold medals and points at stake. Representing the World title-holders, Alisa Buchinger of Austria will participate in Female Kumite -61kg while England’s Jordan Thomas hopes to get his first medal this year in Male Kumite -67kg. 

SANDRA SANCHEZ LEADS WORLD RANKING LEADERS IN SANTIAGO 

As current World ranking leader and one of the karatekas on best form, Spain’s Sandra Sanchez aims at continuing her record-breaking streak of 34 consecutive medals in international competitions in Female Kata. Meanwhile, top-ranked karateka and current Grand Winner Xiaoyan Yin of China appears as the big favourite in Female Kumite -61kg. The World ranking leaders in Male categories participating in Santiago are Turkey’s Burak Uygur in Male Kumite -67kg and Jonathan Horne of Germany in Male Kumite +84kg. 

The competition starts on Friday, September 21st at 9.00 (local time) and will conclude on Sunday 23rd at 18.00 (local time). The Karate 1-Series A Santiago is the third event of the 2018 season in Karate 1-Series A after the successful tournaments in Guadalajara (Spain) and Salzburg (Austria).
