The 4th edition of the Small States of Europe Karate Championships was held in Andorra from September 29 to October 1 as karatekas from the eight nations in contention found the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a successful event.

Over 400 competitors from eight countries (Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, San Marino) participated in the 64 categories at stake.  Karatekas from Luxembourg prevailed in the senior competition after claiming eight gold medals. Malta, Cyprus and Monaco also took home titles in the senior categories.

“These championships would not be a success without the tremendous support of the Andorra Karate Federation and its president Xavier Herver. I want to congratulate the SSEKF Executive Committee members for their full support, and especially the EKF and WKF President Antonio Espinós for making possible that Karate will be a full member of the Games of the Small States of Europe GSSE in 2021,” said the Small States of Europe Karate Federation president Andreas Vasileiou.

“Events like the Small States of Europe Karate Championships demonstrate the remarkable impact that our sport has at all levels. In addition to showcasing Karate’s showmanship and the many values of our discipline, the 2017 Small States of Europe Karate Championships in Andorra contribute to the development of our sport, and set the course for Karate’s anticipated debut at the 2021 Games of the Small States of Europe”, stated EKF and WKF President Antonio Espinós.
