The World Karate Federation hosted today the second round of meetings with national federations via videoconference. Headed by WKF President Antonio Espinós, the gatherings had national federations from African and American countries participating in the discussions to review the current situation of Karate around the world.

The first day of videoconferences saw 16 national federations from Asia, Eastern Europe, Oceania, America, and Spanish-speaking countries joining the conversation. African and American countries took the spotlight on the second day of videoconferences.

Focused on French-speaking nations, the first session of the day had delegates from Burundi, Cape Verde, Djibouti, Luxembourg, and Tunisia joining the videoconference. The effects of the coronavirus pandemic in Africa and the situation of upcoming Karate events were on top of the agenda of the meeting.

The afternoon session gathered representatives from Botswana, Canada, Chad, Jamaica, Namibia, Saint Lucia, South Africa, USA, and Zimbabwe. The delegates were briefed on updates regarding the competition calendar for 2020 and the tentative calendar for 2021 while the representatives of national federations expressed their concerns on the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in their regions.

“These meetings via videoconference are a great opportunity for us to interact and to have feedback from all our stakeholders around the world. We have seen some of our national federations and many of our athletes doing the best to give us hope in these difficult times. I want to thank them for their support and for their hard work. I am sure that when this crisis is over, we will come out even stronger and more united than ever,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
