2023-09-05

The Executive Committee of the World Karate Federation today met to evaluate the situation of the sport around the world. The strategy to maintain the progress of Karate in years to come was discussed at the meeting.
WKF President Antonio Espinós underlined the incredible impact of the WKF’s Strategic Plan as Karate is moving towards its anticipated 26th edition of the Senior World Championships, to be held later this year in Budapest (Hungary).
WKF President Antonio Espinós said after the meeting:
“We have achieved key accomplishments over the last few years, most notably the adaptation of the new structure for the World Senior Championships. I am convinced that the 2023 World Senior Championships in Budapest will be a true celebration of our sport and the beginning and end of a new era for Karate. Now it is in our hands to make the most of this event and to show the excellence and global influence of our sport.”
In this sense, the bids of the cities of Paris (France) and Cairo (Egypt) to host the 2025 World Senior Individual Championships qualification tournament and the 2025 World Senior Individual Championships final phase, respectively, were approved for their presentation and acceptance by the World Congress in October.
During the meeting, which was held via videoconference, the Executive Committee members discussed the state of Karate worldwide and ways to continue optimising opportunities to further develop the sport.
