The final day of the 2024 Karate 1 Youth League in Cancun was a celebration of young talent as the Under 14 categories took centre stage. The future of karate showcased their skills and determination, delivering thrilling performances that underscored the sport's growing popularity among the younger generation. Here’s a closer look at the champions who emerged victorious on this exciting day.

U14 Kata Female

 

Katelyn Nguyen of the United States claimed victory in the U14 Kata Female category, demonstrating exceptional precision and technique. Nguyen's performance earned her a score of 22.80, narrowly surpassing Kaena Schedel of Switzerland, who scored 22.10.

 

U14 Kata Male

 

In the U14 Kata Male category, Emil Zadina from Austria emerged as the champion. Zadina delivered a powerful and well-executed kata, earning a score of 23.60. His opponent, Martin Vercimak from Slovakia, also performed admirably but fell short with a score of 23.30.

 

U14 Kumite Female -42 kg

 

Natalia Perez of Colombia secured the title in the U14 Kumite Female -42 kg category after a tense and closely contested match against Lajwerd Shahnaz of the United States. The bout ended in a 0-0 draw, but Perez was awarded the win by “Hantei” or decision.

 

U14 Kumite Female -47 kg

 

The U14 Kumite Female -47 kg final saw Elina Balint of the United States dominate her opponent, Leia-Summer Madden of Malta, with a convincing 7-2 victory.

 

U14 Kumite Female -52 kg

 

Julia Maria Melgar from Spain clinched the gold in the U14 Kumite Female -52 kg division with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mihaela Arcalean of the United States.

 

U14 Kumite Female 52+ kg

 

In a standout performance, Katelyn Nguyen of the United States added a second gold medal to her tally, this time in the U14 Kumite Female 52+ kg category. Nguyen defeated Mailen Antipa of Chile with a dominant 7-0 score.

 

U14 Kumite Male +55 kg

 

Lukasz Pagin of Germany won the U14 Kumite Male +55 kg category after a thrilling match against fellow German Bijan Azadi. The bout ended in a 2-2 tie, but Pagin was awarded the victory.

 

U14 Kumite Male -40 kg

 

Moisés Gonzales of Costa Rica delivered a stellar performance to win the U14 Kumite Male -40 kg division. He secured an impressive 8-0 victory over Brandon Vladimir Bojorquez of Mexico.

 

U14 Kumite Male -45 kg

 

In the U14 Kumite Male -45 kg category, Benjamin Sotomayor of Chile emerged victorious, defeating his compatriot Agustin Bahamonde 4-0.

 

U14 Kumite Male -50 kg

 

Giacomo Ferraris of Italy claimed the gold in the U14 Kumite Male -50 kg division with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nicolas Jimenez of Costa Rica.

 

U14 Kumite Male -55 kg

 

Oliver Leonardo Velazquez of Mexico won the U14 Kumite Male -55 kg category in a thrilling 8-3 match against Adriano Tadeo Ccoillo of Peru.

 

 

The final day of the 2024 Karate 1 Youth League in Cancun not only crowned champions but also showcased the incredible talent and passion of the next generation of karatekas. Karate’s international series of events for youngsters travels now to Venice, Italy where the final event of the season will take place from December 5 to 8.
