Over two thousand athletes from no less than 99 countries will demonstrate the outstanding universality of the sport in this year’s Karate 1-Series A Salzburg. The massive participation of karatekas in the tournament showcases the remarkable strength of Karate all over the world as competitors from the five continents are set to compete in the event.

While Karate is getting closer and closer to making its Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020, the 2019 Karate 1-Series A Salzburg is expected to be a celebration of the sport with World champions, ranking leaders, Grand Winners and hundreds of Karate hopefuls clashing for the points to advance in WKF ranking. The tournament is set to start on Friday, at 08.30 local time. The finals are scheduled for Sunday from 15:00 to 18.00 (local time).

In last year’s edition of the Karate 1-Series A Salzburg, Japanese karatekas headed the tournament with three gold medals. New names made an impact in the competition last year as upcoming competitors such as Croatia’s Jelena Pehar, Egypt’s Feryal Abdelaziz or Japan’s Masamichi Funahashi among many others surprised with victories. In this edition of the tournament, surprises are also expected to take over the competition.

The 2019 Karate 1-Series A begins this weekend in Salzburg and will continue making stops in Istanbul (Turkey), Montreal (Canada) and Santiago (Chile).
