Popularity of Karate among youngsters celebrated at Karate 1-Youth League Umag

The tremendous impact that Karate has in young ages is showcased once more this weekend in Umag (Croatia) where the second stop of the Karate 1-Youth League will take place from July 5 to 7. 

The tremendous impact of Karate in young ages is showcased once again this weekend in Umag (Croatia) where the second stop of the season of the Karate 1-Youth League will take place from July 5 to 7. 

The idyllic city in the Istria region becomes the main hub of youth Karate with a week-full of activities to celebrate the passion of young karatekas. With over 1200 youngsters taking part in the 2019 WKF Youth Camp & Cup, Umag is ready to welcome one of the most popular events of the season, the 2019 Karate 1-Youth League. 

Nearly 2700 youngsters from 73 countries are registered to participate in the second stop of the season of Karate 1-Youth League. This participation record continues the evolution of previous youth Karate events. In the first season of Karate 1-Youth League last year, an average of 1600 competitors from 61 nations took part in the Karate 1-Youth League events. The most attended tournament was Venice-Caorle (Italy) with 2565 athletes from 67 countries. This tally is clearly exceeded in Umag this week. 

All the hopeful youngsters from 12 to 17 years old attending the event in Umag will be divided in the 31 categories at stake. The competition is scheduled to start on Friday and will continue until Sunday. 

The first event of the 2019 Karate 1-Youth League was held in Limassol (Cyprus). Russia topped the medal table with five gold medals followed by Egypt with four golds and Ukraine and Jordan with three top awards each.
