The Pan American Karate Federation has informed that the 2020 PKF Senior Karate Championships have been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. The continental event was due to take place in San Jose (Costa Rica) from May 25 to 30.

After the cancellation or postponement of the continental championships in Europe, Asia, and Oceania, the Pan American Karate Federation takes the decision following the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus. The PKF had been closely watching the situation of the Covid-19 threat over the last few weeks but ultimately decided to suspend the senior continental tournament.

“In this situation, we must prioritise the health and well-being of our athletes and all the participants in our championships. We hope that this situation can be corrected as positively and as swiftly as possible all around the world,” stated the organisation in a statement.

The 2020 PKF Senior Championships had been scheduled to be held in Costa Rica from May 25 to 30. The previous edition of the continental championships took place in Panama in March 2019.
