No other Kata has attracted as much praise and excitement as the one performed by Japan’s Rika Usami in the final of Female Kata at the 2012 World Championships in Paris (France). Rika Usami’s performance is regarded as one of the best representations of Karate forms of all times.


The Japanese Kata queen claimed gold at the 2012 World Championships after completing a flawless Kata, full of emotion and delivered with absolute perfection. Rika Usami’s rendition of “Chatanyara Kushanku” was so touching and expressive, that over 12,000 spectators filling up Paris Bercy arena responded with a memorable standing ovation, even as Usami was competing for gold against local star Sandy Scordo.

The gold medal-winning kata in Paris 2012 is so fondly remembered, that the video of Rika Usami’s victory is the most-watched kata of all times. The clip of Usami’s “Chatanyara Kushanku” in Paris 2012 has garnered an outstanding tally of 14 million views on WKF YouTube channel only.

KATA ACES RELIVE MEMORABLE KATA

The final of Female Kata at Paris 2012 featuring Rika Usami and Sandy Scordo will be reviewed by two true Kata aces.

Maria Dimitrova of the Dominican Republic and Gakuji Tozaki of the USA, together with WKF TV commentator Billy Brennan make the commentaries in the anticipated programme.

Current Pan American champion, Maria Dimitrova is the best Dominican karateka of all times and one of the best-ever kata competitors in the continent. The runner-up in individual kata and gold medallist in team kata of the last edition of the Pan American Games has claimed medals in all the PKF Championships since 2014.

Gakuji Tozaki of the USA is one of the most promising competitors in Male Kata. Winner of the 2020 US team trials, Tozaki is the current bronze medallist of the ANOC World Beach Games.
