Paris to host Karate 2020 Qualification Tournament in Paris

Paris (France) will welcome Karate’s Qualification event for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020. The tournament where athletes will be able to qualify for Karate’s debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will take place in the capital of France from May 8 to 10.

AccorHotels Arena sports hall in Paris is the venue where the Olympic Qualification tournament for karate will be held. One of the most advanced sports halls in the world and with a capacity for 15,000 spectators, the arena formerly known as Paris-Bercy will be the perfect stage for the most important Karate event of the year before the Olympic Games.

The event in Paris will qualify up to 24 athletes to the Games. The top three athletes at the end of the event in each one of the eight categories will qualify for Karate’s Olympic debut in Tokyo.

Athletes will compete in the eight Olympic categories (Female Kumite -55 kg, -61 kg, +61 kg, Male Kumite -67 kg, -75 kg, +75 kg, Male and Female Kata) during three days of competition to designate the new Olympic athletes of the sport.

The event takes place from May 8 to 10. The competition is scheduled to start from 09.00 to 21.00 on Friday and Saturday, and from 11:00 to 19.30 on Sunday.

Karate will make its glorious return to AccorHotels Arena sports hall since the venue hosted the memorable 2012 Karate World Championships. The Qualification tournament will be broadcast LIVE on many TV Networks around the world.
