Opening Ceremony of 2024 AKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships Marks Strength of Karate in Asia

The 2024 Asian Karate Federation (AKF) Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships officially opened with a vibrant ceremony which was a celebration of youth karate and its growing prominence in the region.
The President of the National Federation of the Philippines, Richard Lim, AKF Vice President Rashid Al Ali, Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann, and World Karate Federation (WKF) President Antonio Espinós all delivered speeches at the ceremony, expressing their enthusiasm for the event and highlighting the importance of youth development in karate.
In his address, WKF President Antonio Espinós praised the progress of karate in the Philippines, saying, "The Philippines has shown remarkable growth in karate over the past few years. This tournament is proof of that progress, and we are grateful to President Richard Lim and the National Federation of Karate in the Philippines for their outstanding efforts in organising this event and elevating our sport. The dedication of the Philippine karate community is inspiring, and we look forward to seeing these young athletes develop into future stars of the sport."
The event was also attended by key figures in Philippine sports, including Philippine Sports Commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo, Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann and Philippine Olympic Committee Chairman Steve Hontiveros. Their presence underscored the importance of the tournament not just for karate, but for the broader sporting landscape in the Philippines.
The opening ceremony kicked off a massive event in Manila.
The success of the 2024 AKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in Manila marks a significant milestone in the development of karate in Asia. Japan led the final medal table, closely followed by Iran and Kazakhstan. Over 500 youngsters from 28 Asian countries gathered in Manila for this memorable event.
