One week to 2019 EKF Karate Championships

Karate fans will get to know the new kings and queens of European Karate in less than one week. The 2109 EKF European Karate Championships will take place in Guadalajara (Spain) from March 28 to 31 with many of the biggest stars of the sport clashing to demonstrate who is the best in the continent.

The 2109 EKF European Karate Championships will take place in Guadalajara (Spain) from March 28 to 31 with many of the biggest stars of the sport clashing to demonstrate who is the best in the continent. 

The tournament to be held in central Spain next week has a tremendous relevance not only for gathering World champions and World ranking leaders searching the points in the Olympic standings; this event will also decide the participants in the upcoming 2019 European Games. 

Over 500 karatekas from 51 ries have confirmed their participation in Guadalajara. Russia with 27 athletes and hosts of Spain with 24 representatives have the largest delegations. All nine current World champions from European ries will take part in the competition thus aiming to win back-to-back world and continental titles.

Local star Sandra Sanchez, Poland’s Dorota Banaszczyk, Serbia’s Jovana Prekovic, Azerbaijan Irina Zaretska, Greece’s Eleni Chatziliadou, Italy’s Angelo Crescenzo, France’s Steven Dacosta, Croatia’s Ivan Kvesic and Germany’s Jonathan Horne aim at taking the double crown in Guadalajara. 

The tournament will also be an opportunity to watch the World ranking leaders from Europe who will try to win the points at stake so to maintain the first place in the standings. Serap Ozcelik of Turkey, Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine, Rafael Aghayev of Azerbaijan and Ugur Aktas of Turkey, as well as Irina Zaretska, Angelo Crescenzo, Steven Dacosta and Jonathan Horne are the current World ranking leaders competing in the Spanish city. 

The last edition of the European Championships finished with Spain topping the medal table after claiming six medals including three golds. Turkey with 11 medals and three golds, and Italy with 10 medals and two golds also registered memorable performances.
