New Grand Winners crowned in Cairo

Meet the new Grand Winners of Karate 1-Premier League! The newly-declared Best of the Best of Karate’s first-class series of international events were crowned Sunday at the Karate 1-Premier League Cairo.

The 2022 Grand Winners are:

FEMALE KATA: Hikaru Ono (JPN)

FEMALE KUMITE -50KG: Yorgelis Salazar (VEN)

FEMALE KUMITE -55KG: Anzhelika Terliuga (UKR)

FEMALE KUMITE -61KG: Anita Serogina (UKR)

FEMALE KUMITE -68KG: Irina Zaretska (AZE)

FEMALE KUMITE +68KG: Ayaka Saito (JPN)

MALE KATA: Nishiyama Kakeru (JPN)

MALE KUMITE -60KG: Aminagha Guliyev (AZE)

MALE KUMITE -67KG: Dionysios Xenos (GRE)

MALE KUMITE -75KG: Abdalla Abdelaziz (EGY)

MALE KUMITE -84KG: Mohamed Ramadan (EGY)

MALE KUMITE +84KG: Mahmoud Taha Tarek (EGY)

 

Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine is the only competitor who wins back-to-back Grand Winner awards. The Olympian extends her domination of the category one more year as she keeps the recognition that she won in 2017, 2019 and 2020-2021.

Meanwhile, World champion and Olympic Games medallist Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan recovers the award that she took in 2019 and 2017.

Ukraine’s Anita Serogina also has experience as the Grand Winner of the category, since she re-claims the award eight years after winning it for the first time. 

The rest of Grand Winners win the recognition for the first time, a testament to the strength of up-and-coming generations in international Karate.

The Grand Winner award recognizes the best in each category and gives the owner the right to wear the special karategi with golden embroidery on the shoulders in all Karate 1-Premier League events of the new season.
