The second Karate 1-Premier League event of the season is being held this weekend in Rabat (Morocco). As one of the main flagship tournaments of international Karate, the #Karate1Rabat is set to create a new era for Morocco Karate.

“The Karate 1-Premier League Rabat will be a significant moment for Moroccan Karate,” said Mehdi Sriti. “It's an opportunity for us to showcase our talents and our dedication to the sports and to inspire a new generation of athletes to achieve their dreams and goals.”

One of Morocco’s main hopefuls this weekend, Mehdi Sriti will compete for gold in the category of Male Kumite -84kg on Saturday. The promising karateka showcases Morocco’s raising status in international Karate.

“I think that the Karate 1-Premier League event in Rabat has become so important to the Karate world because of its high level of competition, excellence, organisation and the impact on the rankings and standings,” said the bronze medallist at the 2022 Karate 1-Premier League Fujairah.

Sriti’s ascend to Karate’s elite makes a case for the growing popularity of the sport in the country. Karate has become a major powerhouse discipline in Morocco due to the outstanding work of the national federation.

KARATE’S INCREASING POPULARITY IN MOROCCO

“People often ask me how did I get success in this sport? The truth is that I've been practising Karate since I was a child. I joined a local gym when I was just six years old and I've been passionate about it ever since. Karate's popularity in Morocco reflects the country's dedication to the sport,” Sriti said.

“The Morocco Federation has been instrumental in promoting and supporting the sport and these efforts have helped build a strong community of supporters and athletes,” he added.

The 2023 Karate 1-Premier League Rabat will be held from May 12 to 14. The best Karate athletes in the world will clash for the medals during the three days of competition.
