The city of Tunis in Tunisia hosts the 29th edition of the Mediterranean Karate Championships. The event is held from May 19 to 21.

Over 400 athletes from 19 countries are gathering in Tunis to fight for the crown. As participation records continue being broken, the event is expected to showcase the strength of Karate in the region.

The competition begins Saturday with Cadet and Junior divisions taking the stage. Senior categories are expected to compete on Sunday.

The last edition of the Mediterranean Games was held last year in Limassol (Cyprus). Egypt topped the medal table of the event after claiming a total of 60 medals, including 22 golds. Italy and Greece also registered deserving performances with seven and three golds respectively.

Grand Winner Dionysios Xenos of Greece, Olympians Mattia Busato, Viviana Bottaro, and Silvia Semeraro of Italy, and World champion Ahlam Youssef of Egypt were among the stars of the event last year.
