Massive Karate 1 Youth League event underway in Istanbul

The third event of the season of the Karate 1-Youth League is being held this weekend https://www.wkf.net/karate1-main/187in Istanbul.

The popularity of the sport at young ages is showcased again at the massive tournament to crown Karate’s future stars.

Over 800 young athletes are gathering this weekend in Istanbul for the anticipated tournament. Hosts of Turkey present the largest delegation with 202 competitors, followed by Ukraine with 119 young athletes and the Russian Federation with 50 karatekas. No less than 51 countries from four continents are represented at the massive event.

The competition starts on Friday, with the Under 14 categories and will continue throughout the weekend until Sunday, when the last categories at stake will be decided.

Young athletes hope to continue their progress in the sport as the competing delegations aim to showcase the success of their grassroots programmes. Ukrainian and Russian young karatekas prevailed at the opening Karate 1-Youth League of the season in Limassol (Cyprus) while Ukraine and Italy topped the medal table at the second event in Porec (Croatia)
