Massive Karate 1-Youth League event to start in Umag

Karate fans’ attention continues to focus on Umag as the city in Croatia gets ready to host the third big event in two weeks. After welcoming the historic Youth Olympic qualification tournament last week, and after receiving thousands of young karatekas for the WKF Youth Camp & Cup, the eyes of the sport turn to Umag once more for a Karate 1-Youth League event.
Karate fans’ attention continues to focus on Umag as the city in Croatia gets ready to host the third big event in two weeks. After welcoming the historic Youth Olympic qualification tournament last week, and after receiving thousands of young karatekas for the WKF Youth Camp & Cup, the eyes of the sport turn to Umag once again for the Karate 1-Youth League event.
Over 1800 young karatekas aged 12 to 17 from 74 countries have confirmed their participation in the Karate 1-Youth League Umag. This tally maintains the outstanding popularity of this competition as 1877 young athletes from 73 countries took part in the inaugural tournament of the season in Sofia (Bulgaria).
The event starts on Friday afternoon with the first categories of the under 14 competition. The finals and medal awards will be distributed at the end of each competition day. The event is scheduled to finish on Sunday at 20.00.
The tournament to be held from July 6 to 8 at the Maria & Lino sports hall is the second stop of the 2018 Karate 1-Youth League. The newly created competition which was conceived to highlight the impact of Karate in young ages travels to Croatia to continue showcasing the great level and all the passion for the sport among youngsters.
The opening event of the season was held in Sofia (Bulgaria), and it also gathered nearly 2000 youngsters from all over the world. Representatives from Ukraine topped the medal table with three golds and a total of seven medals. The delegations of Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, Russia, Slovakia, Japan and Saudi Arabia also registered successful performances with two gold medals each. No less than 22 countries took home gold medals at the event thus demonstrating the universality of Karate.
