The final list of karatekas to participate in the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 has been finally confirmed. With the Karate competition at Buenos Aires 2018 being held in exactly one month, the Karate world gets to know the young participants that will be making history for the sport in the anticipated event.
The final list of karatekas to participate in the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 has been finally confirmed. Representatives of 32 ries will wear the karate-gis in the Karate competition of Buenos Aires 2018 taking place from October 17 to 18. Japan and Iran present the largest delegations with six and five athletes, respectively. The range of athletes in this event highlights Karate’s global reach, with representatives from five continents participating in the competition.
Local Karate fans will follow the steps of two Argentinian karatekas representing the host nation at the event. Rodrigo Tello will take part in the category of Male Kumite -61kg while Juan Salsench will participate in Male Kumite -68kg.
Forty-eight athletes will compete in Buenos Aires 2018. The competitors are divided into six categories, three per gender (Male Kumite -61kg, Male Kumite -68kg, Male Kumite +68kg, Female Kumite -53kg, Female Kumite -59kg and Female Kumite +59kg)
The tournament is scheduled to start on October 17 and will finish on October 18. The Karate event will follow the round-robin competition format, with medal bouts being held on October 17 from 15:00 to 16:30 (local time) and on October 18 to 14:00 to 15:30 (local time). The finals on both days will be broadcast to a number of host TV broadcasters around the world, and the medal-awarding bouts will also be streamed live on the Olympic Channel.
Karate will be making its debut as a Youth Olympic sport in Buenos Aires 2018. It is the first time in the history of the sport that Karate will be d in the sports programme of the Youth Olympic Games.
