Kazakhstan top medal table of 2023 AKF Senior Championships

The 2023 AKF Senior Championships concluded today in Melaka (Malaysia). Kazakhstan topped the final medal table of the event after claiming a total of eleven medals including three golds, the same gold medal count as Japan and Iran, with eight and twelve awards respectively.

Japan extended their traditional domination of Team Kata with a powerful display in Melaka. The two gold medals in the Team Kata categories went to the birth nation of the sport.

Japan’s Male Kata Team reached the top of the podium following a tight victory over Kuwait. The defending champions proved too strong for the hopeful Kuwait side and claimed the crown with scores of 44.6 to 44.0.

In Female Team Kata, Japan also prevailed and kept the continental crown following a convincing triumph over Vietnam. The current titleholders excelled in their Kata presentation and beat Vietnam with scores of 43.1 to 41-8.

Vietnam achieved their biggest success at the event as the Female Team Kumite of the Asian country claimed the throne in the category after overpowering Iran in the final. As the current Asian runner-up, the Vietnam side produced a convincing display of abilities to beat Iran 2-0 to win the gold medal.

Iran completed a fantastic tournament with the title in Male Team Kumite. The defending champions continued dominating the category after defeating Kazakhstan 3-0. The final of Male Team Kumite in Melaka was a repetition of the title-deciding bout of last year, with the same result. The Iranian side dominated the clash and won the three bouts of the final.
