Kazakhstan Karate team meets French President Emmanuel Macron in Astana
The Karate team of Kazakhstan was welcomed in Astana by Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev together with the President of France Emmanuel Macron during Mr Macron’s visit to the country. The meeting had the main sports officials in the country in attendance.
Organised by the French Embassy in Astana and Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the gathering aimed to showcase the success of Kazakh Karate to French officials and introduce the team led by Kazakhstan Karate Sports Director Tareq Abdesselem to Mr Macron, as an example of the many accomplishments of Kazakhstan’s sports programme.
All the members of the Kazakh Karate Team were introduced to Mr Macron by Tareq Abdesselem, who is a French national, as Mr Macron was briefed on the team’s success, which includes two Olympic medals and eight medals at the last edition of the Asian Games, among many other achievements.
“Both President Macron and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev were fully aware of our team’s success. I introduced each karateka one by one, including Sofya Berultseva with her Olympic medal from the Tokyo Games. I added that she was sad not to be able to defend her medal at the Olympic Games of Paris 2024. We were happy to introduce our karate team to them and to show our deep regrets for not being able to participate in the Olympic Games of Paris 2024,” said Tareq Abdesselem.
Kazakhstan have become one of the main powerhouse nations of the sport in the world; the Kazakh Karate team headed the medal table of the 2023 Asian Games with eight medals, including three golds, as well as the medal table of the last edition of the Asian Championships, with 11 medals and three golds. At the recent World Senior Championships, Kazakhstan took sixth place in the final medal table with three medals.
