Karate schedule for Tokyo 2020 released

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) today announced the event line-up for each session of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The competition schedule for Karate was also released during the ceremony which was held today in Tokyo. 

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) today announced the event line-up for each session of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. 

The Karate competition at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will start on August 6 and will conclude on August 8. All the events of the Karate competition will take place at the magnificent Nippon Budokan arena. 

The first session of the Karate competition will be held on August 6 from 10:00 to 14:35 and it will comprise the elimination rounds of Female Kata and Male Kumite -67kg. The tournament will resume at 17:00 until 21:30, August 6 and it will present the elimination round of Female Kumite -55kg, and the medal bouts of Female Kata, Male Kumite -67kg, and Female Kumite -55kg. 

The following day, the Karate competition will be held from 10:00 to 14:35 with the elimination rounds of Male Kata and Female Kumite -61kg. The third session will be held from 17:00 to 21:30 and it will have the elimination round and medal bouts of Male Kumite -75kg, and the medal bouts of Female Kumite -61kg and Male Kata. 

The final day of the Karate competition is scheduled for August 8 from 14:00 to 20:15 with the elimination rounds and medal bouts of Female Kumite +61kg and Male Kumite +75kg.

According to the press release published today, Tokyo 2020 took a holistic approach when compiling the schedule, taking into account the technical rules and regulations of the various international federations, gender balance, athletes’ experience & wellbeing, the popularity of individual sports in Japan, global TV audiences and operational considerations.
