Karate 1- Youth League Monterrey and FISU World University Karate Championships cancelled

The Karate 1-Youth League Monterrey and the next edition of the FISU World University Karate Championship have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Karate 1-Youth League Monterrey and the next edition of the FISU World University Karate Championship have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The World Karate Federation decided to cancel the upcoming Karate 1-Youth League Monterrey because of the effects of the global pandemic of COVID-19. The event was scheduled to take place in Monterrey (Mexico) from September 25-27. As the coronavirus epidemic continues spreading across the world, the safety and well-being of athletes and fans could not be guaranteed. Following the decisions taken amid the current situation of uncertainty, the WKF in coordination with the local organisers and the local authorities decided to cancel the event.

The Karate 1-Youth League Monterrey was the third event of the season of the calendar of Karate’s series of tournaments for underage competitors. The events of Limassol (Cyprus) and Porec (Croatia) were also cancelled due to coronavirus.

Additionally, the International University Sports Federation informed of the cancellation of the 2020 FISU World University Karate Championship. The tournament was scheduled to be held in Brasilia (Brazil) from November 5 to 8.

“It is FISU’s duty to make cautious decisions in order to ensure the safety of all people involved in its events. As you know, we have been closely monitoring the current situation and have tried so far to react accordingly in the best possible way,” said FISU in a statement.
