Historic Karate competition of Youth Pan American Games begins in Cali

Karate’s future stars in the Americas are fighting for the medals in Cali (Colombia). The competition is underway as the winners of the memorable event will be crowned Saturday and Sunday.

The city of Cali in Colombia is hosting the inaugural edition of the Youth Pan American Games. The Karate competition finally started Friday with the first medals being awarded.

Promising karatekas Janessa Michelle Fonseca of Puerto Rico who already represented the sport at the Youth Olympic Games and Anna Laura Prezotti of Brazil will fight for the title in Female Kumite -61kg.  

The final of Female Kumite -68kg will see the same two delegations prevailing as Destiny Sariah Vergara of Puerto Rico will clash for gold against Barbara Hellen Rodrigues of Brazil.

Meanwhile, in the first Male Kumite divisions at stake, Safin Kasturi of the United States will meet Victor Jesus Valdovinos of Mexico for the crown of Male Kumite -75kg.

The category of Male Kumite -84kg will have Saisheren Senpon of the United States and Benjamin Ignacio Nunez of Chile reaching the title-deciding bout.

The second day of action from Cali will resolve all the categories at stake as the competition will conclude on Sunday.
