The 2024 Karate World Cup concluded in Pamplona, Spain, after three days of memorable competition showcasing the best karate in the world. Japan emerged as the dominant nation, topping the medal table with three gold medals, while Egypt claimed a landmark victory in Male Team Kumite.
Male Team Kata: Japan Extends Reign
Japan continued its domination in Male Team Kata, securing their 14th world title. The team of the birth nation of the sport defeated Türkiye in the final with scores of 46.70 to 45.30. This victory marked Japan’s fifth consecutive world championship in the category.
In the clash for bronze, Spain thrilled local fans by claiming the third step of the podium for the second time in a row, beating Italy 45.20 to 42.70.
Female Team Kumite: Japan Returns to the Top
Japan reclaimed the Female Team Kumite title for the first time since 2006, overcoming the United States in a controlled 2-0 final.
Host nation Spain defeated Italy 2-0 in the bronze medal match, using home support to fuel their success and add to their collection after last year’s gold in Budapest.

Female Team Kata: Japan Keeps Winning Streak Alive
Japan maintained their stronghold on Female Team Kata, claiming their 15th world title and fifth consecutive crown. The defending champions defeated Portugal with scores of 46.60 to 43.20 in the final.
Meanwhile, Spain added another bronze medal to their tally, beating Italy 43.40 to 41.90. It was a repeat podium finish for Spain, who also took third place last year in Budapest.
Male Team Kumite: Egypt Makes History
Egypt achieved their first-ever world title in Male Team Kumite, defeating the Islamic Republic of Iran 3-0 in a dominant final. The African champions improved on their silver from Budapest, marking a significant milestone in the category.
Japan added another bronze to their collection with a 3-1 victory over Italy, ensuring a podium finish in all four categories.
