The second day of the 2025 Karate 1-Premier League in Paris concluded with finalists in the last six categories confirmed after a thrilling and emotional day of competition. Grand Winners Kakeru Nishiyama, Youssef Badawy, Taha Tarek Mahmoud, and Maria Torres highlighted an action-packed day.
Male Kata: Grand Winner Kakeru Nishiyama Shines
Japan’s Kakeru Nishiyama delivered an exceptional performance and confirmed his status as Grand Winner a great force in the category after defeating Kazumasa Moto 44.80 to 42.90 to secure his place in the final. He will face compatriot Yasuhiro Machida, who beat Ryonosuke Kikuchi 43.2 to 42.5 in a close contest.
Female Kumite -61kg: Kanay and Shimada Set for Final
Kazakhstan’s Assel Kanay advanced to the final with a hard-fought 5-3 victory over France’s Lea Avazeri. Sarara Shimada of Japan joined her after edging out Ashley Kakiay of the Netherlands 3-2 in a tense semifinal.
Male Kumite -84kg: Grand Winner Badawy Impresses
Egypt’s Youssef Badawy dominated his semifinal, defeating Japan’s Junya Eto with a commanding 12-1 victory. The current Grand Winner of the category demonstrated top form in a showcase of striking abilities. Jordan’s Mohammad Aljafari earned his place in the final with a 3-1 win over Italy’s Matteo Fiore.
Female Kumite -68kg: Sombe Shines at Home
Japan’s Tsubasa Kama secured her spot in the final after defeating Türkiye’s Eda Eltemur 8-4. France’s Thalya Sombe delighted the home crowd with a 6-4 win over Grand Winner Elena Quirici of Switzerland in an exciting bout. With the audience on her side, Tombe beat the defending Grand Winner in the category to qualify for her second consecutive final in Paris after taking gold last year.
Male Kumite +84kg: Grand Winner Mahmoud Continues to Dominate
Egypt’s Grand Winner Taha Tarek Mahmoud showcased his skill, defeating Eduard Sagilyan of the United States 5-1 to advance to the final. The defending Grand Winner continues showing strength and aims at another gold in the category. Anes Bostandzic of Bosnia and Herzegovina joined him with a 6-4 win against Rob Timmermans of Curaçao, following a sensational performance throughout the championships.
Female Kumite +68kg: Grand Winner Torres Leads the Way
Spain’s Maria Torres, the current Grand Winner, secured her place in the final with a narrow 3-2 victory over Johanna Kneer of Germany. The Grand Winner from Spain clinched a tight triumph against one of her main opponents in the category. Kazakhstan’s Sofya Berultseva will challenge her in the final after a tight 2-1 win over Ingrid Creemers of the Netherlands.
Day 2 of the Paris tournament maintained the excitement of the event, with thrilling matches and standout performances. With the finalists decided, anticipation builds for the finals and the crowning of the season’s first champions. The last day on Sunday will crown the first winners of the Karate 1-Premier League season.
