Grand Winner Hikaru Ono heads Japan's triumphant final day at #Karate1Fukuoka

Japan topped the medal table of the 2023 Karate 1-Premier League Fukuoka. Grand Winners Hikaru Ono and Anzhelika Terliuga, and Olympians Elena Quirici and Abdel Rahman Almasatfa were among the heroes of the final day of the event.  

GRAND WINNER HIKARU ONO TAKES GOLD IN FEMALE KATA

Japan’s gold medal count started in Female Kata with Grand Winner Hikaru Ono extending her domination of the category. The representative of the host nation defeated Olympian Mo Sheung Grace Lau of Hong Kong by 45.5 to 43.7. After winning bronze in Cairo and Rabat, Hikaru Ono takes her first crown of the season so to confirm her status as the favourite to retain the Grand Winner award.

 

The title in Male Kata also went to Japan since two competitors of the host nation competed for gold. Kazumasa Moto defeated teammate Ryonosuke Kikuchi (scores of 44.6 to 43.3) and added the title at home in Fukuoka to his bronze medals in Cairo and Rabat.

 

ANZHELIKA TERLIUGA SCORES BIG IN FUKUOKA 

Grand Winner Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine impressed with a convincing 10-2 victory in Female Kumite -55kg. The World ranking leader from Ukraine won her second gold in the season of Karate 1-Premier League by overpowering Shiori Nakamura of Japan in a full-of-Ippon performance. 
 

ELENA QUIRICI TAKES STEP TOWARDS GRAND WINNER AWARD

Switzerland’s Elena Quirici took a decisive step towards winning the Grand Winner award in Female Kumite -68kg. The three-time continental champion added the crown in Fukuoka to the title in Cairo in a hard-earned triumph over Japan’s Tsubasa Kama 5-2.

 

OUTSTANDING DEMONSTRATION OF SCORING ABILITIES IN MALE KUMITE -60KG

The final of Male Kumite -60kg was a showdown of offensive Karate. Hiromu Hashimoto won gold after defeating Darkhan Timraliyev of Kazakhstan by a whooping 10-4. It is the first title in Karate 1-Premier League for the promising Japanese karateka.

 

SECOND KARATE 1-PREMIER LEAGUE GOLD FOR REEM AHMED SALAMA

Egypt’s Reem Ahmed Salama claimed her second title of the season and added the gold in Fukuoka to the crowns in Cairo and the continental championships following a convincing 6-2 victory over Nadia Gomez Morales of Spain in Female Kumite -50kg.

 

OLYMPIAN ABDEL RAHMAN ALMASATFA WINS ALL-JORDAN FINAL

The final of Male Kumite -67kg was an all-Jordan affair. Olympian Abdel Rahman Almasatfa took the crown over teammate Afeef Ghaith 6-1 and claimed his second gold medal of the season after claiming the title in Rabat.  

Jordan won one more gold today as Mohammad Aljafari prevailed in Male Kumite -84kg. The winner of the tournament in Rabat and defending AKF champion showed top form and beat Ivan Kvesic of Croatia 4-2.

SARARA SHIMADA ADDS ONE MORE GOLD FOR JAPAN

The host nation also celebrated a victory in the category of Female Kumite -61kg. Sarara Shimada won her first crown in Karate 1-Premier League in only two appearances and confirms her status as a rising star in the sport. The Japanese competitor upset Reem Khamis of Germany 4-3.  

 

IMPRESSIVE VICTORY FOR LORENZO PIETROMARCHI IN MALE KUMITE -75KG

The crown in Male Kumite -75kg went to Lorenzo Pietromarchi of Italy who performed at an outstanding level and dominated the final of the category over Turkiye’s Omer Faruk Yurur 8-0. With this compelling triumph, Petromarchi wins his first gold medal in Karate 1-Premier League.

 

YUZUKI SAWAE WRAPS UP VICTORIOUS DAY FOR JAPAN

The celebration of triumphs for the host nation was completed with the final of Female Kumite +68kg. The two competitors in the title-deciding bout of the category came from the organising nation. Yuzuki Sawae claimed the gold medal with a slim 1-0 triumph over teammate Ayaka Saito. The winner of Karate 1-Series A Richmond-Vancouver took her first gold medal in Karate 1-Premier League.   

 

RYZVAN TALIBOV COMPLETES LIST OF GOLD MEDALLISTS OF #KARATE1FUKUOKA

The last category of the day concluded with Ryzvan Talibov of Ukraine winning the gold medal in Male Kumite +84kg. The winner of the 2020 Karate 1-Premier League Salzburg won his first title in three years following an impressive triumph 8-0 over Spain’s Babacar Seck Sakho.

 

The 2023 Karate 1-Premier League will travel now to Dublin (Ireland) where the final event of the season will be held from September 8 to 10.
