Future of Karate discussed at national federations meeting in Chile

WKF President Antonio Espinós shared his vision for the future of Karate with representatives of the ries participating in the 2019 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in a meeting held in Santiago (Chile). The most crucial projects for the sport were discussed at a gathering that showcased Karate’s unity.

Amid the social unrest that influenced the 2019 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships, WKF President Antonio Espinós and WKF stakeholders took time to gather with the delegates of many of the delegations taking part at the tournament. The preparations ahead of Karate’s Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020, the roadmap for the next Senior World Championships in Dubai (UAE) and the s of the new and anticipated edition of the WKF Youth Camp were among the main points of the agenda. 

“We have to be extremely proud of our sport and of ourselves for being here and for being part of this event. This tournament has been so unique due to the special circumstances occurring in the ry, but we have to be proud because the greatness of our sport has been once again showcased,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós at the meeting. 

“It was thanks to all your support that this event could be the success that it is. Next week we all will feel the importance of what we have achieved here,” added the head of Karate’s international governing body, who also took the opportunity to thank the Chile Olympic Committee President Miguel Angel Mújica and the Chilean government for all their cooperation.

The qualification system for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 was reviewed while s were revealed regarding the upcoming Olympic Qualification Tournament in Paris. Also, the venue and main logistics elements of the 2020 World Senior Championships in Dubai were introduced while the new host city for the 2020 WKF Youth Camp was presented. The 2020 edition of Karate’s most massive underage activity will now move to the city of Poreç in Croatia, around 15 minutes away from the previous venue of Umag.
