Finalists Decided on Thrilling Day 1 of Karate 1-Premier League Paris

The opening day of the 2025 Karate 1-Premier League in Paris, France, set the stage for high-level competition, with finalists in six categories determined. As the first event of the season and one of karate’s flagship tournaments, the Karate 1-Premier League Paris lived up to its reputation, showcasing top-tier performances. Grand Winners Maho Ono and Abdalla Abdelaziz were among the big winners of the day.

Female Kata: Maho Ono Dominates

Japan’s Maho Ono displayed exceptional skill, earning her spot in the final of Female Kata. Ono defeated compatriot Kiri Mishima with a score of 43.9 to 42.4. Meanwhile, Mo Sheung Grace Lau of Hong Kong advanced by edging out Japan’s Saeko Azuma 42.4 to 42.2. Ono and Lau will face off in what promises to be an exciting final.

Male Kumite -60kg: Xenos and Samdan Advance

Christos-Stefanos Xenos of Greece showed resilience in his semifinal bout, defeating Ali Meskini of Iran 6-4. On the other side, Türkiye’s Eray Samdan prevailed against Japan’s Grand Winner Hiromu Hashimoto in a tight 2-1 match. Xenos and Samdan will now clash for the title.

Female Kumite -50kg: All-Iranian Final Secured

Iranian karatekas dominated the -50kg category. Sara Bahmanyar impressed with a commanding 4-0 win over Japan’s Aika Okazaki, while Masoumeh Mohsenian beat Slovakia’s Natalia Vargova 6-3. The two Iranians will battle for the gold medal in the all-Iranian clash.

Male Kumite -67kg: Kozaki Leads the Way

Yugo Kozaki of Japan outperformed Brazil’s Vinicius Figueira in an intense 6-4 match. Abdurrahim Ozer Omer of Türkiye earned his place in the final by narrowly defeating Nuran Rzazade of Azerbaijan 2-1. Kozaki and Ozer Omer will compete for the top prize.

 

Female Kumite -55kg: Furumoto-Deshaies Shines for Canada

Egypt’s Ahlam Youssef delivered a dominant 6-0 victory over Türkiye’s Tuba Yakan to secure her place in the final. She will face Hana Furumoto-Deshaies of Canada, who edged out Trinity Allen of the United States 3-2 in a close contest.

Male Kumite -75kg: Mikulic and Abdelaziz Impress

Nemanja Mikulic of Montenegro earned a hard-fought 4-2 win against Libya’s Mohamed Abudabous. Egypt’s Grand Winner Abdalla Abdelaziz demonstrated his prowess with a commanding 10-2 victory over Ukraine’s Heorhii Pitsul. Grand Winner and World Champion Abdelaziz demonstrated to continue on top form as he reached a new final.

Day 1 set the tone for the rest of the competition, with outstanding performances and tightly contested matches. The finalists now prepare for their shot at gold in what is already proving to be an exciting start to the season.

The competition continues on Saturday with day 2 of action from Paris.
