Elite of African Karate to meet in Durban

The city of Durban in South Africa hosts the 2022 UFAK Senior, Junior, and Cadet Karate Championships. The new kings and queens of African Karate will be crowned at an event which is scheduled from Friday, December 2 to Sunday, December 4.

Nearly 400 athletes from 22 African countries have registered to participate in the anticipated event. The domination of the sport in the continent is at stake as the elite of the sport is gathering this weekend in Durban.

The two reigning World champions from African nations will compete in Durban. Ahlam Youssef and Youssef Badawy from Egypt hope to win back-to-back world and continental crowns at the event. Meanwhile, World Championships medallists Menna Shaaban Okila of Egypt, Abdel Ali Jina of Morocco, Ali Elsawy of Egypt, and Abdalla Abdelaziz of Egypt aim at adding the African title to their list of honours.

The last edition of the UFAK Championships was held in Cairo in 2021. Hosts of Egypt topped the medal table of the event with a total of 38 medals including 26 golds. Algeria and Tunisia also registered deserving performances in Cairo.
