Chinese Sports Minister visits Karate 1-Premier League Shanghai

The President of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Director of the State General Administration of Sports, Gou Zhongwen visited the Karate 1-Premier League event in Shanghai this past weekend. Mr. Gou Zhongwen met WKF officials and representatives of the Chinese Karate Federation as the Karate 1-Premier League Shanghai showcased the progress of the sport in the country. 

The delegation of the WKF welcoming Mr. Gou was headed by WKF Organising Commission chairman and Karate 1-Premier League supervisor Esteban Perez. Chinese Karate Federation Vice President and General Secretary Yuan Yongqing participated in the meeting among many other representatives of the National Karate Federation. 

Karate officials and Mr. Gou Zhongwen sat to discuss the great development of the sport in China. The President of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Director of the State General Administration of Sports was updated on the successful results achieved in bringing first-class Karate events to China and reviewed the facilities on site at the Gymnasium of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. 

“It was a great honour to have Mr. Gou at our event in Shanghai. It was very important for Karate that Mr. Gou could attend the tournament, and I was pleased to have the opportunity to discuss with him the outstanding sport culture in China. We also conversed about the many possibilities of Chinese athletes to qualify for Tokyo 2020 and the importance of celebrating a major event such as the Karate 1-Premier League in Shanghai. We are very grateful for his support to our event and our sport in the country,” said WKF Organising Commission chairman Esteban Perez

“We are delighted to learn that Karate is fast becoming one of the most developing sports in China. I want to thank Mr. Gou for taking the time to visit our event in Shanghai and I hope that he had the opportunity to witness first-hand the excellence of our first-class events,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
