Nearly 600 participants gathered in China for the National Karate Championships

Nearly 600 participants gathered in China for the National Karate Championships, a massive and successful celebration of the sport that showcased the growing impact of the discipline in the country. The event represented one more effort of national federations to resume their activities amid the current uncertain circumstances. 

Karate in China is going back to normal, and to demonstrate the increasing relevance of the sport in the country, the Chinese Karate Association celebrated a massive and successful national championship.

The event gathered nearly 600 participants and it was conducted following the local measures and WKF guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of the athletes and staff members amid the coronavirus pandemic. The competition represented the first Karate tournament to held in the country since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic.

After the event, all the participants congregated to celebrate WKF’s 50 Anniversary. The nearly 600 karatekas, coaches and referees joined in commemoration of the five decades of history of Karate’s international governing body. Presenting a banner with the commemorative 50 Anniversary logo, representatives of Chinese Karate gathered to form the World Karate Federation acronym and the number 50.

The World Karate Federation is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the organisation. Karate’s international governing body was created on October 10, 1970, and to commemorate the occasion, the WKF is organising several activities while some national federations around the world such as the Chinese Karate Association are stepping forward to honour the occasion.
