Over 1300 karatekas from 30 countries gathered this past weekend in the city of Bielsko-Biala (Poland) to showcase their abilities in one of the leading Karate events in northern Europe.

The Polish Open is one of the most well-known Karate events in the region, and it congregates top karatekas from all over the world. The eleventh edition being held this past weekend was a true celebration of the sport, as Polish representatives dominated the competition. The local karatekas topped the final standings and took 116 medals and 29 golds in the 103 categories at stake. Competitors from Belarus and Denmark also presented remarkable performances with 59 and 54 medals respectively.

Following the success of the previous editions, WKF President Antonio Espinós travelled to Poland and attended the competition. The head of Karate’s international governing body praised the successful event for setting a high standard, both on and off the tatamis. During the tournament, Mr. Espinós was welcomed by the President of Bielsko Biala Jacek Krywult at an official reception in the city hall.

“It is crucially important to the WKF and to the development of Karate that excellent events like the Polish Open are being hosted around the world, and that clubs like Atemi Club are loyally contributing to the values and principles represented by the WKF. We are fortunate to have many tournaments where karatekas of all ages can make their dreams in the sport come true; It is only with events like this Polish Open that we can take further steps to the progress of our sport,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
