Australia top medal table of 2022 OKF Karate Championships

Australia were the big winners of the 2022 Oceania Karate Championships which were held in Noumea (New Caledonia).

Nearly two hundred athletes from six Oceanian countries gathered at the tournament in Noumea. The Australian delegation dominated the competition with a tally of 76 medals including 27 golds.

The event gathered senior, cadet, junior, and U21 categories and was the first tournament of its kind after the coronavirus pandemic.

Hannah Sullivan opened the gold medal count for Australia in senior categories with her victory in Female Kumite 68kg while teammate Jamie Kelly-Hoare took the crown in Female Kumite -50kg. Georgie Lawrence won the title for Australia in Female Kumite -55kg and Mandy Yap completed the gold medal list for powerhouse of Australia in Female Kumite with her triumph in Female Kumite -68kg.

Meanwhile, Australia claimed three golds in Senior Male Kumite with the titles going to Teo Cvetkovski in Male Kumite -60kg, Declan Squire in Male Kumite -67kg, and Mitchell Durham in Male Kumite -75kg.

Representatives of New Zealand also completed a successful performance with three golds in senior categories. The two gold medals in Kata went to New Zealanders with victories of Isaac Hoshi and Alexandrea Anacan. In Kumite, New Zealand claimed the gold in Male Kumite +84kg by Liam Singer.    

Hosts of New Caledonia also celebrated triumphs in senior categories. Lara Lemestre won the crown in Female Kumite -61kg and Mathieu Annonier took the title in Male Kumite -84kg.
